My first Holy Communion outfit.
My Mom and Dad and Brother Anthony.
I searched through the basement until I found this photo. Notice the matching white shoes. Imagine wearing that outfit as an adult! It would definitely be more embarrassing than it was back then!
My father's hands on my shoulders gives me a warm comfortable feeling. I must have felt his love and protection and my mom was always there for me whenever I needed her. My brother was my steadfast companion. We had some arguments just like all families but I was lucky to have them.
One day I intend to organized all the old photos but right now it's not a top priority.
I can't imagine any 7 year olds wearing that outfit today... but we certainly did back then. DH's First Communion pic is very similar (don't think the tie was quite that big) and my photo is in our white Sodality Uniforms (with veil).
ReplyDeleteMy old photos sometimes make me feel old.
DeleteOh...how wonderful these photos are, John!!! I was wondering when you show your communion photo after you were kind enough to visit my blog. I simply adore this photo so much. You are right...I don't believe any child would be comfortable wearing this outfit today, but you are obviously very happy in this lovely photo with your dad, mom and brother. We are such a different society today and our children are under such "peer pressure". Sadly I see it all of the time.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy that you shared this precious moment in black-and-white with us...thank you, John~~~
I agree. Today's children seem to want to please their friends more than their family.
DeleteYou should take a picture with that bow tie now, just for fun
ReplyDeleteThe bow tie is gone. I can't remember but maybe I destroyed it soon after that day.
DeleteLooking back at my childhood photographs, I usually do find myself in these ridiculous outfits, especially if I have to dress up for a special occasion. You are not alone in that aspect. I think it's the same for every generation though.
ReplyDeleteI wonder who thinks up these outfits.
DeleteI think your brother is smiling because he is not being made to wear a giant bow tie! Great photo, thanks for sharing! :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe so!
DeleteThank you for following my blog.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely. You should scan these and upload for posterity.
ReplyDeleteI know but it's just so tedious. Maybe I'll be in the mood someday.
DeleteLovely shot and lovely family!
ReplyDeleteSo moving to see old B&W shots from your childhood!
I've got one from my first communion and the white dress I'm wearing makes me look like a little bride! He he he!
Thanks for sharing John. And thanks for your membership in my blogs;o)
